The Toshiba D-R5 Multi-Drive DVD Recorder allows users to record and playback their favorite videos in stunning MPEG-2 digital video on either a DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-VR, or DVD-RW formatted discs. DivX Home Theater Certification allows playback of DivX, AVI and MPEG4 (.ASF) compressed files downloaded from the internet from a personal computer and stored on a CD-R/RW. The D-R5's convenient HDMI inputs include both digital audio and video signals in one cable for uncompressed single wire connection of home theater components to the television. HD JPEG will provide the ability to view Megapixel images in their enhanced resolution when using HDMI and an HDTV display device. Preset recording modes for DVD: 1hr/2hr/3hr/4hr/6hr.

HDMI High Definition Multimedia Interface: the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video connection. HDMI provides the best interface between a DVD player and compatible products, such as a digital television (DTV). When matched with a compatible TV, this single interconnecting cable combines: Multi-channel audio, uncompressed digital video, intercommunication between devices and simple control Protocols. This single cable connection ensures that all signals remain in their pure digital form and secure by use of High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP) regardless of signal output resolution.

HDMI Video Upconversion (720p/1080i): HDMI can support uncompressed digital video up to HDTV resolution. Thus the player makes use of this conduit by up-converting the standard DVD picture resolution of 720p or 1080i. This makes a DVD player with an HDMI connection the perfect match for today's digital televisions. And because this conversion is performed in the player, the signal remains free frome excessive digital to analog artifacts.

Multi-Drive Playback and Recording: Toshiba Multi-Drive DVD recorders are multi-format DVD recorders designed to provide the greatest flexibility in recording and playback by supporting DVD-RAM, DVD-R, and DVD-RW* recordable disc formats. The right format for every application:
- DVD-RAM is the most flexible of the recordable DVD formats when it comes to recording, editing and playback. Even more, re-record content approximately 100,000 times
- DVD-R is a write-once format perfect for sharing treasured video moments with virtually anyone who has a DVD-Video player.
- DVD-RW* can rewrite content up to 1000 times and playback in a wide variety of computer drives and DVD-Video players.

Digital Cinema Progressive (3:2 Pulldown): Delivers the smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive scan television, such as an HD-compatible one, and ensures maximum resolution.

Dolby Digital and DTS Compatible Output- Connected to a compatible AC-3 receiver, Dolby Digital creates a multi-channel audio experience and unsurpassed three-dimensional audio performance rivaling the best movie theaters. And every Toshiba DVD player features DTS (Digital Theater Systems) compatibility. A Toshiba DVD player can be connected to a DTS compatible receiver/decoder via its digital audio outputs for playback of high-resolution multi-channel DTS -encoded DVDs and CDs.

ColorStream ProComponent Video Output: These outputs allow the video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video equipped interlaced or progressive scan TV. When this connection is utilized with today's HD-compatible sets, typical NTSC artifacts-like video noise, dot crawl, and flicker-are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity.

WMA & MP3 Playback: Play recordable Compact Discs (CD-R & CD-RW) with music stored in either the Windows Media Audio or MP3 file formats can be enjoyed.

3-D Virtual Surround Sound- Provides a simulated surround sound effect from sources that contain only a stereo soundtrack. Convenient when playing older DVD films or for use with home theaters not equipped with multi-channel playback compatibility. Also active via the headphone output jacks.

Auto Title/Chapter/Thumbnail Creation: Recorded content remains easy to find with the help of a menu that will be automatically created when you record. It displays the date and channel you recorded, along with a thumbnail of your recording by capturing the first video frame of the recording. The date and channel can be change to any 64-character title and the thumbnails to any image within the recording. Chapters within the recording can also be created by either predetermined intervals, or by the user selecting specific points within the recording. These chapters can also be named and assigned a specific thumbnail from any video frame within the chapter.

Timer Recording: This DVD recorder features a 181-channel cable compatible tuner and a 2-month, 32-event timer programming functionality. Users may input their own program data, or take advantage of the built-in TV Guide On Screen Interactive Program Guide and VCR+ technology for simple timer event programming. Battery Backup ensures that you will not lose your programming during power outages, and the XDS Auto Clock Set function ensures you player will never blink 12:00 again.
